Job Description

A cement manufacturer is currently seeking Material Handlers to join their team!

Under the direction of the Production Supervisor, the Material Handler must maintain levels of all material bins (clinker bins, mill scale, sand, coal, limestone, clinker, hopper to tower, gyp and anhydrite) as needed.

Job Duties:
  • Unload materials (coal, coke, liquid fuels and other materials) that arrive to the plant by rail or truck
  • Keep coal, coke, gypsum and other materials separated and contained
  • Operate loader to continuously fill bins with various materials to keep pace with production.
  • Operate loader to stockpile incoming material and keep the yard orderly and the material stacked.
  • Inspect the loader daily for any pre-shift, during-shift or post -shift maintenance needs.
  • Perform routine and preventive maintenance on loader as required.
  • Assist Production Team with cleaning and maintenance of plant.
  • Inspect all equipment in work area
  • Unplug feeder and hoppers and clear sticking gate when needed
  • Keep all department conveyor belts lubricated and inspected
  • Replace skirt rubber on conveyors as needed
  • Handle problems as they arise
  • Assist with kiln repairs during shutdowns *
  • Perform other duties and special projects as required
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Must have minimum of six months experience in plant operations
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Ability to operate and service front end loaders and bobtail haul trucks (be able to read and understand operators manuals)
  • Ability to perform basic math functions
  • Must have a basic understanding of the plant operations
  • Must have excellent work and safety record 
  • Must understand and comply with lock-out procedure and safety requirements
  • This position will follow a rotating shift schedule.
  • Must be able to communicate vital information to control room / supervisor and next shift.
WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Must work outside in all weather conditions: heat, cold, dust, and wet a minimum of 8 hrs.per day.
  • Work in high noise level areas while wearing proper PPE
