Job Description

Texas State University is currently seeking a Lab Assistant for the Student Health Center.

Duties are to perform phlebotomy/specimen collection, carry out data entry/clerical responsibilities, perform CLIA waived tests, participate in proficiency testing on waived tests, and monitor & report supply levels and expiration dates.

Required: A phlebotomist with recent specimen collection and processing training or experience in a reference laboratory, hospital or clinic setting.

  • Maintain daily log of send-out tests. Print requisition for reference lab testing for send-out labs
  • Perform venipuncture or any necessary specimen collection technique for in-house and reference lab testing
  • Document patient name or unique identifier, student ID, date & time of collection. Initial test report results
  • Perform CLIA-waived medical laboratory tests
  • Report all CLIA-waived lab test results in electronic medical record
  • Report panic values immediately to medical providers
  • Perform quality control on waived lab tests and test kits. Participate in quarterly proficiency testing
  • Participate in committees & other required meetings;
  • Review & remain current on all applicable federal, state and university regulations and policies including CLIA, Radiation Control Program, SHC and Texas State University.
  • Phlebotomist experience working in a high volume clinical setting
  • Experience performing CLIA-waived tests in a high volume laboratory
  • Applicants must specifically address how they meet these required qualifications to meet the requirements of the position.
  • Phlebotomist certification
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support
  • Direct patient care laboratory experience in a family practice, internal medicine, pediatrics, hospital emergency department or college health setting within the last 5 years.
  • Minimum 1 year experience as a Phlebotomist working in a high volume clinical setting.
  • Minimum 1 year experience performing CLIA-waived tests in a high volume laboratory.

Work Schedule: MWF/8am-5pm, TTH/9am-6pm
